Located in historic Fort Baker at the edge of the San Francisco Bay, the Bay Area Discovery Museum is devoted to educating children and serving as a resource for parents and educators. The mission of the museum is to “engage, delight and educate children through exploration of and connection with the local environment and the diverse communities”. The existing landmark campus has been renovated and expanded to include a new entry building, multimedia/performance center, early learning center, and extensive outdoor exhibit areas. The project strictly conforms to the Secretary of the Interior's Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties. In keeping with the goals of the museum and the National Park Service, the expanded campus incorporates sustainable building practices, systems, and materials.
