NRDC occupies two floors of a landmark, 22-story office building located in San Francisco’s Financial District. Originally constructed in 1927 as the west coast home of the National Broadcasting Company, the building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and features operable windows, steam radiant heat, narrow floor plates and abundant daylight. The office interior’s design takes full advantage of the characteristics of the existing structure, providing abundant natural ventilation, and daylighting while realizing advanced energy-efficiency. Simple, readily available materials and systems were used to create an inviting, healthy, environmentally responsible workplace for the cost of a standard office interior in San Francisco.
