Founded in 2005, the Institute maintains the world’s largest online archive of previously inaccessible materials and works to preserve and advance Dr. King’s legacy through research, education and public engagement. The space is designed to encourage exploration of the Institute’s work and by extension encourage visitors to engage with Dr. King’s legacy.

The architecture of the seminar room is built out of the foundation of the Institutes 14 volumes. The arrangement of the volumes, display cases and history of Dr. King transforms the space from a mere meeting room into a sanctuary of civil rights history, where the physical presence of these volumes reminds us that we stand as part of something far larger than ourselves - a continuing movement for justice and human dignity.
